What is in Erling Haaland’s buyout clause? The bidders can’t be from England, the amount will be close to a record
Erling Haaland is currently one of football’s hottest commodities. At the age of twenty-two, he is one of the best strikers in the world, which he proved against Leipzig, for whom he scored five goals during the Champions League return leg. Under what conditions can a potential buyer buy him?

If we were to compile a ranking of the best footballers in the world, he probably could not be missing from the elite ten. Twenty-two-year-old Norwegian striker Erling Haaland has been proving his undeniable qualities for several seasons now.
In 2018, he was on a rampage in a Molde jersey and was also scouted by Prague Slavia. The latter, however, did not have a single chance in the multitude of offers and the Norwegian moved to Salzburg.
Even there he scored goal after goal, so after a year he moved to Dortmund. Two and a half years at Borussia were enough for his services to be requested by Manchester City, to whom he moved last summer.
Haaland currently has 28 goals in 26 league games and has scored ten times in six Champions League fixtures. That’s why he has plenty of suitors who are willing to offer hundreds of millions of euros for him.
However, it is certain that City do not want to release him, after all, why would they voluntarily get rid of such a footballer. However, there is one option, and that is a buy-out clause.
The one Haaland and his agent negotiated on his arrival sounds clear. It doesn’t come into effect until 2024, so this summer the suitors are still out of luck.
It is €200 million and cannot be used by English clubs, City’s direct competition for the title. European teams have a chance to buy him out, and there are not many who can afford to invest such an amount.
At the moment, it looks like only Real Madrid, who tried to buy Kylian Mbappé from PSG for a similar amount, and the Parisian club, who have already invested a comparable amount in Neymar.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the exit clause will change in the coming years, and it is not known to what amount. The only thing that is certain is that if Haaland leaves the club in the next few years, a lot of money will be added to the coffers.
