The Puma Footballer of the Year 2021 was deservedly won by striker Patrik Schick. He had a phenomenal season in the Bundesliga and was also an indispensable member of the national team. Second place went to Tomáš Souček, what did these Czech stars say after the event?
The Puma Footballer of the Year 2021 event didn’t get much attention in the Czech media, which is understandable, as Sunday afternoon was all about the World Cup.
Adam Karabec (AC Sparta Praha) was named Talent of the Year 2021, Jindřich Trpišovský (SK Slavia Praha) was named Coach of the Year and Andrea Stašková (Juventus) was named Footballer of the Year 2021.
Then came the main category, which was the Puma Footballer of the Year. Vladimír Coufal (West Ham United) came third, Tomas Souček (West Ham United) came second and the winner of the event was Patrik Schick (Bayer Leverkusen).
The national team forward is enjoying his break from football. First, he signed a new contract with Leverkusen until 2027 and now he has received the most valuable Czech football award.
What was Patrik Schick’s message through the media and how did Tomas Soucek tweet?
“It’s an award for this season, everyone was waiting to see if I would confirm my form from the EURO, and I did. It was my best season so far, my goal is to be better again. I feel that it can be even better. I want to work on not being injured,” said the 26-year-old forward and fresh Puma Footballer of the Year 2021.
Patrik Schick also reflected back on the 2022 World Cup qualifiers, where he was unable to play due to injury. “I am sorry that I couldn’t play in Sweden. Initially, according to one diagnosis, it looked like it would be possible, but after the second one it wasn’t. It’s also a question whether I would have been any good in that game after five weeks. The agreement was that I would come to Poland, but that never happened.”
