Slavia Prague lost to Feyenoord 1: 2 and now they have to prepare for Sunday’s derby at Letná. What did Thursday’s match show and did coach Jindřich Trpišovský save his horses?
Slavia saved for the derby
It may be a bit ridiculous and it may seem like an excuse, but the Sevivans did not field the strongest possible line-up. The first three strikers in Trpišovský’s hierarchy, Daniel Samek, a mainstay of recent weeks, and even captain Jan Bořil remained on the bench.
Both Jindřich Trpišovský and Jaroslav Tvrdík, moreover, mentioned that the league is their current priority after the Europa League exit. And their words have come true, Lukáš Masopust at left back or Ibrahim Traoré in the centre of midfield would not normally play.
Even Trpišovský sometimes makes mistakes
Trpišovský is undoubtedly a master of tactics. He made a number of average footballers into TOP players, on the other hand, putting Masopust on left-back when he played only one game there (last year in Brno) was very risky. It was obvious that he is not used to playing here. The national winger played his worst game this season, you wouldn’t have enough hands to count the dropped passes.
The biggest nonsense, however, was the deployment of Stanislav Tecl. This game was asking for Michael Krmencik, the burly brawler. It was clear that there was no point in running with Feyenoord in the first half, especially playing everything through the wing spaces. Tecl didn’t play anything on the tip, but there wasn’t much to play in his defence.
Traoré was also struggling, with the ball bouncing off his foot from the start of the game and taking time to get the ball through. Samek was offered to be substituted at half time, but the African midfielder stayed on the pitch until the final whistle and perhaps that was what decided the 1: 2 defeat.
The tireless Bah
Alexander Bah once again confirmed his importance for the Seškis. He struggled through the first half, but at the same time he was annoyed by several unforced tackles. After one of them, the home team scored a goal to make it 0:2.
However, it is hard to blame the Danish back. He plays match after match and always gives his all. On Thursday he impressed with his incredible physicality, in the setup of the match he ran the ball heading to the box, he had more similar runs in the last ten minutes.
