What did Slavia show against Linz? Ousou makes “youth mistakes”, the loss to Liberec was just a one-time failure
Slavia advanced to the quarterfinals of the European Conference League on Thursday despite losing 3:4, as they dominated the West 4:1. What did the match show for the next weeks, in which the Red and Whites will have to face Viktoria Plzeň in addition to the quarter-finals?

Ousou is still just a talent
Aiham Ousou, who got himself sent off in the 42nd minute, made it difficult for Slavia to advance. In the space of seven minutes he saw two yellow cards, both completely unnecessary. The second yellow foul was a complete fool’s errand, especially when the Swedish stopper already had one card.
Thursday’s red was certainly not Ousou’s first blemish, remember his woeful performances from the derby games with Sparta. Although he is capable of playing three straight games at number one, he is still only a talented player who needs to be worked with. Talk of a senior national team is not out of place yet.
Sunday was just a blip
Despite losing the rematch with Linz, Slavia did not disappoint their fans with their performance. They dominated from the opening minute and made us forget about Sunday’s loss to Liberec. The Czech side did not score and lost the first place in the table.
Sešívani didn’t let Linec put Linz under any pressure except for the last ten minutes, even without Ousou they were very dangerous and were only hit by Plavšić’s sending off. Then, logically, they ran out of strength, but otherwise a reliable team performance, which we are used to in Slavia in Europe in recent years.
Talovjerov not only by Součkem
Just like a week ago, stopper Maksym Talovjerov started in the midfield, while midfielder Tomas Holeš played stopper. Jindřich Trpišovský sees the winter signing from České Budějovice as the new Tomáš Souček, but after Ousou’s red card, Talovjerov had to move into defence.
And he played very well in his position. Alongside the traditionally reliable Holeš, he won countless duels in the air and helped even in the difficult end of the match. The Slavia management was undoubtedly confused whether to give him another chance in defence.
