Sor to Europe ideal
On Thursday, the Slavia management pulled out the same ace as three years ago in the return leg of the same Europa League stage match at Genk. Lukáš Masopust was in the starting line-up for the first time after his transfer from Jablonec and his good performance helped the team to win 4-1 and advance.
In Istanbul, Yiru Sora made his debut from the first minute. Alongside Peter Olayinka he was unstoppable, he was on the second and third goal of Slavia and proved that he can be extremely dangerous on the European stage, where Slavia will not always play in full defence.
The confident Oscar
Oscar Dorley has extremely graceful movement on the ball by Fortuna Liga standards, he can play in four positions, but if he has been faulted for anything it is his fear of shooting.
He scored a beautiful goal from outside the box in the red and white’s model friendly against the blue and white’s in Portugal during the training camp and it seems to have given him the confidence he needed.
He scored against Fenerbahçe with his weaker foot, giving the home goalkeeper no chance from a volley in the 62nd minute. Just a few minutes later he fired again from a similar spot, this time into the middle of the goal. Would Oscar shoot in similar positions in the autumn? Probably not…
If you can’t, run
For the umpteenth time in recent years, Slavia’s bet on hardy and fast players has paid off. In cups, Jindřich Trpišovský likes to bet on more mobile footballers and it was no different on Thursday under Jaroslav Köstl’s helm.
It was not for nothing that the typologically different Mads Emil Madsen and Michael Krmenčík did not get into the game at all, as they probably would not have kept up with the high tempo. Slavia thus came out of the crisis and gave their best performance of the year.
