What are your chances for Slavia to advance? A draw is enough, but the Susians have not been doing well on German soil for a long time

On Thursday, 9 December, Prague Slavia will face a very difficult match against German Union Berlin. The hosts, who will play this match in a different stadium anyway, otherwise have great statistics on their soil.

Apart from the matches against Feyenoord (also played in a foreign stadium – ed.), St. Gallen and Bayern, the last time the German side lost was on 15 March, when they lost to Braunschweig in a friendly on their own turf.

Jindřich Trpišovský’s charges are currently in second place in Group E, with a draw enough to advance. However, the Prague team’s record in Germany is not very flattering.

Slavia Prague are on a run of six losses in a row and have failed to score even a single goal in five of them. The score of these six matches is not so dazzling either – 1::12.

On 10 December last year, Slavia lost 0:4 to Bayer Leverkusen in a Europa League match.

Match number two dates back to October 2, 2019, when Susians lost to Dortmund 1:2 at Signal Iduna Park, although they put in a decent performance. Tomáš Souček scored for Prague then. After that, however, we get into a somewhat more recent history, which we must objectively admit is not that relevant.

In 2005 Slavia lost in the UEFA Cup group stage against Hamburg (0:2), in 2001 Slavia lost to Kaiseslautern in the semi-final rematch (0:1) and in the 1997/98 season the Prague team lost their matches at Stuttgart and Schalke 04 (0:2 and 0:1).

It should be noted that the overall record of Czech teams on German soil is not very impressive – in the last 10 matches our teams have not managed to win even one of them. Unfortunately, eight of them ended in defeat.

However, as we have already written above, let’s not be discouraged by ancient statistics. Let’s wish Slavia the best of luck in the upcoming duel, after all, it must be acknowledged that it is in everyone’s interest that Czech football keeps moving forward. And unfortunately, it won’t be possible to do it in any other way than with good results.
