- West Ham have picked themselves up with the return of a healthy Lucas Paqueta, grabbing seven points from the past three rounds and advancing to the Europa League quarter-finals this week. And they did it in style, beating German side Freiburg 5-0 in the return leg
- Aston Villa have had a similar week, reaching the Conference quarter-finals after a 4: 0 win over Ajax. While they have been dominant at home to start the season, they have won three of their last four away games and drawn once
- West Ham is a slight underdog at home, and can be backed at odds of 2.69. The visitors from the Top 5 are on offer at 2.42, a point for everyone, which would probably please no one, can be hit at 3.85
Where to watch West Ham vs Aston Villa?
Sunday’s match of the 29th round of the Premier League will offer a confrontation of two teams from similar levels of the table. While the home side want to get into any cups, the visitors are trying to get into the Champions League. Hosted at the London Stadium, the match will take place on March 17 at 15:00 CET.
West Ham upset against an improving away side
West Ham are one of the hardest teams to read this season, with good passages interspersed with worse ones. They have now won three of their last four games, the return of the Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Paqueta pairing as expected has helped.
Aston Villa are strong tactically under Unaeus Emery, especially their breaks are sophisticated. However, they cannot be used much against West Ham, the Hammers like to crawl into defence, even at home.
Betting tip – West Ham to win at least one half
West Ham are strong at home, as they showed in the week against Freiburg. That’s why I think they will win at least one half, specifically that they won’t lose the first half. I wouldn’t bet on an overall win though, after all Aston Villa have improved away from home and are performing better than the Hammers in the league this season. At the end of the game I predict more of a draw. The question is which team would take it more. Probably the home side.
