West Ham lose Coufal to surgery
Vladimír Coufal missed the last Hammers game, where Ryan Fredericks filled in for him during the draw with Newcastle.
Vladimír Coufal missed the last Hammers game, where Ryan Fredericks filled in for him during the draw with Newcastle. Now the club has announced that the Czech defender has undergone groin surgery.
Coufal has played 26 games for West Ham across all competitions this season, scoring 4 assists. However, the club will have to cope without him in the coming games.
Due to a groin problem that has reportedly been bothering him for quite some time, he had to undergo surgery after consulting a specialist. It went well.
“Vladimir’s operation went exactly as planned. Heis now facing rehabilitation,” head doctor Richard Collinge told the club’s website.
The aforementioned Ryan Fredericks, but especially the talented Ben Johnson, who has already been preferred to the 29-year-old Czech several times this season, can replace Coufal at right-back.
As for the length of Coufal’s absence, West Ham have not released any information, and fans can only speculate when the player will return.
The timing of his return will certainly be of interest to Czech fans as well, as the Czech national team has an important barrage match against Sweden in a month’s time.
