Monday’s Championship second round match will feature two teams that are regularly promoted and relegated from the Premier League. West Bromwich take on Watford, what to expect from the game and what to bet on?
West Bromwich wanted to return to the elite last year, but after a good start they completely blew the second half of the season and the result was their worst finish in 20 years, tenth place. They drew with Middlesbrough to start the new season.
Watford failed to save themselves in the Premier League last year, also suffering from a miserable second half of the season. However, the squad is strong, which was confirmed in the first round with a 1-0 win over a strong Sheffield United.
The home team relies on the goals of the quick Karlan Grant, the English striker scored eighteen times last season. Eight goals and seven assists were added by Irish international playmaker Callum Robinson.
The visitors have a threat in attack in the form of Nigerian Emmanuel Dennis, who netted ten goals and assisted five times in the league last season. Winger Ismaila Sarr and left back Hassane Kamara are also big names in the Championship.
West Bromwich have clearly found stability in defence, something they failed to do last season. He’s only got three goals in his last three games.
Watford, on the other hand, are even better, having only got one goal in their last five games.
Considering Watford’s defensive form and the quality of the squad, which would definitely not be lost in the Premier League, I don’t think West Bromwich will win.
