In the preliminary game of the eighth round of the Championship, the two candidates for promotion to the Premier League meet. Struggling West Bromwich will challenge third placed Burnley, what to expect from the game and what to bet on?
West Brom’s first seven rounds have not gone well at all. Eight points earned is not enough considering the promotion ambitions, on the other hand, the competition is balanced and they are only five points behind the second place.
Burnley also did not start ideally until two wins in the last two rounds put them in the top 6, even in third place. They are only two points behind leaders Sheffield, while on the other hand they are only one point behind tenth-placed Preston.
The home side is led by Championship specialist Karlan Grant, the English spearhead striker has four hits so far. Reading’s summer signing John Swift shines in midfield, the skilful midfielder scoring twice and assisting once.
On the away side, long-time mainstay Josh Brownhill is thriving, making four appearances from midfield and assisting on one goal. Talented striker Nathan Tella, visiting from Southampton, split the net three times, as did the experienced Jay Rodriguez.
Grant is the only reliable scorer for the home side, which is why they have also scored more than once in only two of their last eight games.
Burnley, on the other hand, have changed their style of play with the sacking of concreter Sean Dyche, scoring an average of 2.75 goals in the last four rounds.
Considering the different form of both attacks and the larger number of players with Premier League experience in Burnley’s squad, I think that the visitors will not lose at least on the hot ground of West Bromwich.
