Werner Hartmann: Why didn’t I succeed in the Extraliga? Sometimes attitude and diligence are not enough. In boxing I have the highest ambitions
In an interview with Ruik, Werner Hartmann talked not only about his hockey career, but also about his boxing ambitions and coaching. However, from his position as a coach, he also gave advice on how men can combat testosterone deficiency and what can help women during the menopause.
In an interview with Ruik, Werner Hartmann talked not only about his hockey career, but also about his boxing ambitions and coaching. However, from his position as a coach, he also gave advice on how men can combat testosterone deficiency and what can help women during the menopause.
Hartmann is a former hockey player, boxer, crossfit competitor and coach. Looking back on his sporting life, he says he doesn’t miss hockey at all. So which of the four professions mentioned above is his favourite?
“It’s hard to say when I think about it. I’ve been playing hockey since I was four years old and now it’s been two years since I’ve played. And when I look around, I don’t miss it at all. I’ve decided to focus more on boxing, which I’m totally absorbed in and it’s becoming my daily bread,” Hartmann admits in an interview.
He was in the junior team of Vítkovice for several years, but he didn’t play much for the senior team. Mostly he played in the second or third highest league, but from 2014 to 2020 he also played in the German third league. Why didn’t he make it in the league?
“I played countless preparatory games and tournaments for the Vítkovice A team, plus I managed to play the whole play out series. And I remember it only in a good way, my only regret is that I didn’t go to Germany sooner.
There is only one thing I would say about not making it to the league. It’s not always enough to have attitude, diligence and determination,” he explains.
How does he evaluate his engagement in Germany, for example in terms of club facilities or financial aspects of the third German competition?
“I consider Germany to be the best period of my hockey career, I spent eight years there and of course there were better teams – in terms of facilities, financial aspect… But there were also worse ones. As for finances and facilities – for me, everything is better in the German third league than in the Czech first league. The lower leagues in Germany are improving year by year and I would not be afraid to say that the level there is really top,” Hartmann describes his German engagement.
In the interview Hartmann also talks about coaching and his boxing ambitions. And what about crossfit?
“I have been a coach for about ten years, I plan to improve myself and take some additional courses (to get a crossfit license, etc.) to fill in the gaps. But I have the highest ambitions in boxing, I want to fight as much as possible and be healthy,” he speaks honestly about his desire.
In terms of his coaching abilities, he also expressed his opinion on some dietary supplements and some are simply less effective than others. Some of the most talked about products are Primulus, Feminus and Kloubus. What does he say about the importance of amino acids, kickers or just the last three products mentioned above?
“For me personally, supplements like BCAAs, glutamine and kicker are essential to my training and day. I myself have recently launched my own pre-workout drink. However, many supplements don’t have that effect and pretend to be a quality product and it’s just the opposite. Be it slimming teas, extreme burners and the like.
I’ve been using Primulus and Kloubus myself for about five years and I can’t praise them enough. Anyway, everyone should make a picture of the effectiveness for themselves,” evaluates the experienced trainer.
Especially for top athletes, it is necessary to watch, for example, the level of testosterone. Hartmann lists six absolutely typical signs of low testosterone levels and how to raise it again.
“Fatigue, sleep problems, lack of concentration, depression, bone problems, joint and muscle pain. Primulus and Kloubus can help you with all this. The former is strictly for boosting testosterone. It is also good to eat various nuts, almonds or eggs.”
It is men in older age who often suffer from testosterone deficiency. Why does this actually happen and how to fight this problem in the long term?
“I’m not yet at an older age (laughs – ed.), so I don’t have these problems and thanks to supplements I hope I won’t have them. However, the decline can be significantly slowed down by an active lifestyle. By following a healthy and balanced diet, it is important to avoid toxins, whether they are pesticides in food or xenoestrogens in cosmetics or drugstores in general,” Hartmann advises.
Later in the interview, Hartmann also talked about estrogen, which is undoubtedly another powerful hormone that greatly affects the female body. So what should a woman do if she is deficient and what will help her during menopause?
“Again, physical activity and elimination of stress are necessary. In case of menopause, I recommend an active lifestyle and taking Feminus. This reduces the symptoms of menopause and increases energy and appetite for sex. The same is true if fatigue syndrome sets in – take Primulus, Feminus, avoid stressful situations and live a healthy lifestyle.”
