The football associations of the Czech Republic, Poland and Sweden have issued a joint statement in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
These national teams may face Russia in a barrage competition. More precisely, in Russia, where neither team is going.
The Czech Republic, Sweden and Poland are demanding that the barrage matches be moved out of Russia. Their position is united, unambiguous and unchanging.
In an official letter, the associations called on the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to do so.
They are now asking for a response as soon as possible, while at the same time wanting to know the possibilities of how and where the barrage matches can be played.
In exactly one month’s time, the Czech Republic will play Sweden, Poland will play Russia and the winners will then clash for a qualification place to the World Cup.
