Viktoria Plzeň has another big challenge ahead of it. Last week they were beaten by Bayern Munich by five goals and this time they will challenge the German champion at home. Viktoria promise to be much bolder.
The Pilsen footballers were looking forward to the Allianz Arena. A large number of fans came to support them for the close three-hour trip, the comparison with last year’s quarter-finalist was supposed to be a feast.
But the Victorians practically didn’t even make a sound and were already down 2:0 in the 13th minute after goals from Sane and Gnabry. Mané added a third goal in the 21st minute and the game was virtually over. Sané and Choupo-Moting added goals in the second half.
Plzen were publicly criticised for their too passive and timid performance, coming to Munich only to pull away and get as few goals as possible. Coach Michal Bílek promises his charges will be bolder in the rematch.
“As far as defensively is concerned, we must not let them make quick transitions to attack, they have a huge strength in that. We are playing at home and we will want to play a better game and get a better result than last week. We will try to play boldly, we want to threaten their goal, ” Bílek was convinced at the press conference.
“I expect our offense to be better than last week and we will be much more courageous. Bayern Munich is a huge brand and an important club, but we are playing at home and we would like to please our fans. Tomorrow’s game will be a huge event for the whole of Plzeň and we will do our best to get the best result,” added the Plzeň coach.
Winger Jan Kopic spoke in a similar vein. He would like Viktoria to surprise their opponents with the first goal.
“We showed each other something on the video and said a few words about it. We saw the mistakes we made. Bayern Munich are a huge quality side, but we must definitely not concede so early against them, and instead try to score first,” Kopic let slip.
