Viktoria Plzeň will enter the third round of the Champions League on Tuesday evening at Sheriff Tiraspol. There is no favourite in this double-header, we can expect an even match, anyone can advance. Coach Michal Bílek encourages his team to win the first match.
Sheriff already had to go to the first Champions League preliminary round, where they eliminated Zrinjski from Bosnia and Herzegovina after 0::0 and 1::0 results. In the second preliminary round the team from Tiraspol took on Maribor after identical results, yet they did not get a goal.
Pilsen went all the way to the second preliminary round, where they knocked out HJK Helsinki after wins of 2::1 and 5::0. It can be expected that Viktoria will test the opponent’s defence much more than the first two teams.
“Sheriff had very good results last season, now they have made big changes and are forming a new team. He is very strong, he hasn’t scored a goal in four games in European qualification, he defends very well. It is a technical team, where the players control the ball well, they are strong in one-on-one tackling,” Michal Bílek pointed out the opponent’s strengths at the press conference.
Viktoria want to repeat the scenario from the duel with HJK, create a good position away and then confirm their promotion at home, where they are very strong.
“We have to be attentive defensively, but we also want to play actively up front, create situations and get into the end. We want to get a good result for the rematch, we will go into the game with the intention of winning,” said Bílek.
Sheriff’s biggest weapon is their fast wingers, which Milan Havel and Radim Reznik, or Libor Holík, will have to deal with.
“I’m not 100% sure what line-up we’ll have. I am glad that the squad is wide and we have a lot to choose from. We will see how the players look, some of them have small health problems, then we will decide,” said the Pilsen coach about the line-up.
