Slavia has played its opening quarterfinal match of the Conference Europa League. A 3:3 draw in the Netherlands gives hope for the rematch, which Slavia will play in front of a sold-out Eden. What did stopper Ondřej Kúdela say after the match?
Slavia managed to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord in the opening quarter-final match of the Conference Europa League, setting up a good result for the rematch.
Ondřej Kúdela played the whole match, for the first time since last August, when he started in the return leg against Legia Warsaw, which will not be remembered in the best way.
After Feyenoord, however, the nadir is better. “I probably couldn’t have imagined a better match. Or actually yes, a win at home (laughs). It’s important that we didn’t lose the game, that we equalised in the end.
I don’t think we deserved to lose. Otherwise, of course, I’m happy that I could play again after such a long time,” he said in an interview with the club’s website.
It is hard to praise the defence after three goals, but Kudel did not disappoint. Moreover, he can be a part of the great success of Czech football itself.
If Slavia reaches the semi-finals, they will be the first Czech team ever to do so in European competitions.
“We managed to draw and we will be cheered by the whole stadium at home, that’s exactly how I wanted it. Of course it would have been better for us to win, but in the context of the match we have to be happy for the draw. I hope the people at home will drive us on and we will rewrite the history by progressing,” he added.
