Real Madrid surprisingly failed to win Monday’s league match and lost to Rayo Vallecano 2:3. With this loss, the Madrid club lost its lead in La Liga, which it has now ceded to Barcelona. Carlo Ancelotti, the team’s coach, was naturally unhappy with the loss.
The defending Spanish champion did not play a good game. The first goal of the match was scored in the 5th minute and the team continued its lukewarm performance.
Even though the favourite managed to turn the game around in the first half, it went to the dressing rooms 2-2 after the 44th minute goal.
Rayo Vallecano didn’t let their opponents pressure them and remained active. They were rewarded with a penalty in the 67th minute, which was converted by Trejo to give his team a surprising victory.
Carlo Ancelotti was not satisfied with the performance of his charges, who at the press conference was looking for the reasons for the defeat. According to him, the team was completely without energy.
“We were dragging our feet. We played a lot of games in the last few days and today we were not rested enough. We didn’t show the necessary quality to win today,” Ancelotticommented on the match.
“The opponent had more determination, we lost the personal duels and didn’t get into the game at all, ” concluded the Real Madrid coach afterwards.
Real Madrid suffered from a lack of rotation of players. But with the Champions League group and the World Cup coming up, the schedule will not be any looser, quite the opposite. It is therefore worth considering whether it would be appropriate to give more players a chance in league matches.
Real Madrid’s defeat may have pleased rivals Barcelona, who moved to the top of the Spanish league table with the loss. They now defend a two-point lead over their rivals.
