According to the position of the tennis players in the ATP ranking, the team of captain Jaroslav Navrátil is the favourite. Moreover, the opponents will probably have to do without their number one player Yishai Oliel, the 382nd player in the world, due to health problems. Jiří Veselý and Vít Kopřiva are missing in the Czech nomination.
Jiri Lehečka, who is our highest ranked player thanks to his 63rd place, will start the barrage on Friday at 13:00 CET. He will face Daniel Cukierman, the world number 449.
Six places above him is Edan Leshem, who will then face another Czech youngster, Tomas Machac, who is ranked 109th in the ATP rankings.
Zdeněk Kolář and Dalibor Svrčina are expected to play in Saturday’s doubles, while Jonatan Erlich and Cukierman are registered as doubles players from the Israeli team.
The final singles matches are to be played with Leshem – Lehecka and Cukierman – Machac. However, it is possible that the names of the participants in the second day’s matches will change.
The Czech or Czechoslovak Davis Cup team has played the national team of the Jewish state four times in the 112-year-old famous competition. Israel has enjoyed victory once, namely in 1987, while our tennis players won in 1966, 1994 and 2018.
The fifth duel will be shown on Czech television. The public broadcaster will provide live coverage on the CT2 station and on the CT Sport Plus internet platform.
