We have nothing to be ashamed of, we gave a fighting performance. We fought like lions for the results, what we have to say, Daridu is happy

Captain Vladimír Darida and his teammates had a very successful Euro 2020, which will certainly be seen as a success in hindsight. After all, we have to take into account the quality of our players compared to our opponents.

It is precisely because we often faced better opponents that Jaroslav Šilhavý and his charges had to devise tactics accordingly. And it must be said that he chose correctly!

The Czech players fought like lions, they always gave their all and thanks to a bit of luck we were finally rewarded with a quarterfinal match. But how did the captain of the Czech national team evaluate the performance of the Czech team at the European Championship?

“We have nothing to be ashamed of, we gave a good and fighting performance. We fought for the results like lions, like what we have in our hearts and it was visible in today’s match. It’s a pity we didn’t finish the game and score the equalizer, because I believe we would have turned it around then,” Darida said after the game.

The experienced midfielder had a tough time, however, as he was injured in training last Friday and missed the match against the Netherlands in Budapest. However, he was back in training on Wednesday and was on the pitch in the second half against Denmark.

“The Danes defended well and it played into their hands to take the lead. It’s hard to get into their defensive zone and it’s a shame we didn’t make it,” Darida regrets the missed chances.

It is also a great pity that the game was not played in Budapest, for example, where we would have undoubtedly had great support from our fans again, who would have helped our players. Especially in the last minutes of the game their energy would have been felt!

It was the Danes who had several thousand fans in the stands supporting their charges. But as Darida himself admits, something is still better than nothing.

“We felt the Danish fans, but as I have said many times before, it is much better to have at least some atmosphere than to play the game as a friendly in front of empty stands,” he concluded the interview.

The last three matches are still ahead of us, unfortunately without Czech participation. However, in time we will remember this European championship in a good way. The famous performances of Patrik Schick, Vladimir Coufal and Tomáš Vaclík will remain in our memory for a long time.

It must be added that after many years we had again a reason to be rightly proud of our representatives!
