Sparta disappointed their fans in the opening game of the 16th Conference Europa League final. After a toothless performance, they left defeated 0:1 and will have to work hard in Serbia if they want to think about qualification. What did coach Pavel Vrba say after the game?
Sparta started the match well, pressuring their opponents and getting chances until the 15th minute, but then they fell out of the match and couldn’t get back into it.
At the end of the game, the opponent took advantage of the mistake in the match and finally took all three points from Prague and a promising lead for the rematch.
Fans on social media showed their disgust with their team’s performance. What did Sparta coach Pavel Vrba have to say about the performance?
“The start of the match was still OK. We had about two chances that we didn’t convert. Then the match turned into a fight. We didn’t have any chances, then at the end a standard situation. The reason is that we were not as active as we would have liked,” he said in an interview with the club website.
Apart from the match against Slavia, Sparta have been performing poorly in the spring and a difficult February certainly doesn’t look like what everyone at Sparta would like.
“If you take it from the back, we managed the cup match with Slavia, we settled the unfavourable development with Plzeň by drawing 2.2. A lot of players are getting opportunities, but somehow we are not doing it. But we are not as active in the attacking phase as we were in the autumn and as we would like to be,” he added.
