When Lionel Messi arrived at PSG in the summer of 2021, Neymar was beside himself with joy. He believed that they would be able to build on their successful season at Barcelona, only he was very wrong. They were both expelled from Paris in anger after two years.

PSG management believed that the arrival of Lionel Messi was the final piece to the jigsaw needed to win the Champions League. Neymar was already in the team, they were great together at Barcelona and they also won the Eared trophy in 2015.

For the third time, they had Kylian Mbappé in the attack and the management believed that no one could stop this attack. Only it was themselves and their big egos that stopped it.

In both years, the Parisians fell right out in the Champions League eighth finals, first to Real Madrid, then to Bayern Munich. And the fans bit hard.

They showed their anger a lot afterwards. “We’ve been through hell,” Neymar tells Brazil’s Globo Esporte. Neither is playing in Paris anymore, so he could open up a bit.

“When he won the World Cup I was happy about it too, but then he went through hell in Paris. It was very unfair to him. He really didn’t deserve to leave PSG like that,” Neymar said.

Messi was the number one enemy of the fans at that moment. Before every game, when his name was announced, the whole stadium booed him, and several hard core members even went outside his house and shouted nasty abuse at him.

“We were at PSG, we wanted to give our best. The aim was to win titles and win all competitions, especially the Champions League. We wanted to make history, but unfortunately it didn’t happen,” Neymar sad.
