We felt great support from the players! We have a lot to build on, said Šilhavy. What other offer was on the table?
Jaroslav Šilhavý will continue as coach of the Czech national football team, although he did not meet his goal of qualifying for the World Cup. Jaroslav Šilhavý will continue as coach of the Czech national football team, although he did not meet his goal of qualifying for the World Cup. He now has the next phase of his engagement ahead of him and the goal is to qualify for the European Championships. How did the negotiations for the extension go?
Jaroslav Šilhavy’s contract was coming to an end after the World Cup barrage and as he had not met the target and the team had started to stagnate under him, there was speculation that it would not be extended.
The opposite was true, with FAČR president Petr Fousek agreeing to extend him until the end of the qualifying phase for the European Championship. Did the coach and his team think about leaving on his own?
“We also thought about it. We are the coaches, we have the biggest responsibility. It crossed our minds when we didn’t get promoted, but we felt a lot of support from the players, which made us happy. At the same time, I think we have something to build on, even though the barrage was obviously unsuccessful. It depended on how the executive committee would evaluate the situation,” he told iSport.
According to him, the agreement was not complicated. Chairman Fousek wondered whether the coaches were negotiating any engagements, whereupon Šilhavy added that they were not.
Nevertheless, he reportedly had an offer from Egypt’s Al-Ahli in the winter, which he did not want to comment on. What about the amount of salary he is supposed to receive? It was speculated to be 600 thousand.
“A contract is always created so that both parties are satisfied. It was dealt with as a whole, not just my contract. Itwas nothing dramatic,” he said, adding that the amount was inflated.
