Viktoria Plzeň is now in its third year without a European Cup group stage, this time falling in the new Conference Europa League after getting the decisive goal in the 120th minute. A sad Luděk Pernica went to the press conference after the game, where it was obvious how much he was sorry for this loss.

Viktoria Plzeň went into the match against CSKA Sofia with a positive 2: 0 score, which they had won at home. Fans of the coefficient were thus rejoicing that for the first time in history we will see 4 teams in the group stage of the European Cups.

But they miscalculated, the only satisfied team was Jablonec, who dominated the match and the rematch. Viktoria lost 0:2 in the regular season and it went to extra time.

In the 120th minute, substitute Falta did not keep Matthei safe, who headed into the empty net.

“We didn’t make it again, for the third year in a row… It’s too bad, it’s hard to find words. I don’t even know how it fell there. We had some chances, even before Choras went alone on goal, but we didn’t convert anything,” said Pernica, the Pilsen stopper.

“They punished us for everything in overtime, even though they played one player less. What more can I say? We drank the cup of bitterness to the bottom. Today is the worst slap in the face for us in the most important game of the season,” he added.

As a result, Viktoria has lost the bulk of the money they now have to earn elsewhere, namely on transfers. So it is to be expected that there will be some more changes in the squad.
