We could be in big trouble, says Hamilton. What is the Mercedes driver afraid of?
Max Verstappen clearly dominated in Mexico, Sergio Pérez almost stole second place from Lewis Hamilton. But Hamilton managed to defend his position thanks to a great top speed. For Mercedes, however, Red Bull’s pace could be a big problem for the rest of the season. What else did Hamilton say?

It was supposed to be a Mercedes race. At least based on the qualifying results. However, Hamilton pointed out in an interview not too long ago that Red Bull will be a very strong team at the next few circuits.
And his words were confirmed, Verstappen clearly dominated the Mexican Grand Prix in terms of the pace of his monocoque. Moreover, Pérez pressed the seven-time world champion hard towards the end of the race, but he was able to defend his position.
“I think if they carry their speed today into the next races, then we could be in trouble, or rather we will be in trouble,” Hamilton explained in one of his post-race interviews.
“Their pace was absolutely amazing and we just couldn’t do anything about it. They were the better team this race weekend. They’re too fast and despite giving it everything we’ve got, we can’t keep up with them,” he adds.
If the seven-time world champion wants to keep his hopes of winning his eighth title alive, he needs to start winning. Unfortunately, at this stage of the season, there is no time to lose for Mercedes.
“Naturally I feel I need to win every race. At the moment we need all the extra points we can get and, most importantly, not to lose any more. That was the goal in the last race and the race before and the race before that and in this race weekend,” he concluded.
Verstappen’s victory in the Mexican Grand Prix gave him his ninth win of the season! Hamilton is well behind, with only five wins to his name.
At the same time, the Red Bull driver is already 19 points clear of Hamilton, which will be even harder to make up at this stage of the season. In addition, Red Bull has also caught up with Mercedes in the team standings. The current gap between the two teams is just one point!
