We continued to work hard and I am proud of what we accomplished! Hamilton talks about the season so far
In a recent interview, Lewis Hamilton responded to the progress of the first half of the season, obviously from Mercedes’ perspective. According to him, despite the initial big problems, nobody gave up and now his team is finally picking itself up. What else did Hamilton reveal?

Mercedes has entered the new season with the aim of extending its winning streak in the Constructors’ Cup, having clearly dominated Formula One in the previous eight years, winning eight championship titles.
The German team is unlikely to win a ninth title right away, however, after a poor first half of the season.
Entering a new era, Mercedes didn’t quite hit the right concept for its car and fell behind Red Bull and Ferrari from the start. Notably, Hamilton performed significantly worse, while George Russell managed to run decent results and often finished in the top five.
But the fact remains that Mercedes had major problems with bouncing, which forced Hamilton in particular to significantly adjust his driving style and brake well ahead of the ideal braking point. Handling problems, understeer, understeer, underperformance – all of these qualities Hamilton complained about in several races.
Now Mercedes is third in the Constructors’ Cup and its performance is starting to pick up. You can also see a comparison of driver and team scores from last year and this year in the attached Twitter post below.
When we get back to where we deserve to be, I think we’ll appreciate it all the more
“We didn’t start where we wanted to be. But we’ve made progress and we’ve got some consistency. Not one person in our team gave up and we continued to work hard, so I’m really proud of the progress we’ve made,” said Hamilton, who was quoted by Motorsport.
“I think we have improved our car in many areas. So when we get back to where we deserve to be, I think we will appreciate it even more,” the Mercedes driver explained.
It’s fair to say Mercedes has made some really good performance progress in recent weeks. In fact, it has finally dealt with the bouncing, or porpoising, and unlocked the hidden performance of its monoposts as a result.
Although Hamilton has been very worried about not only his own results but also the team’s results throughout the season, he was always hopeful that Mercedes could catch up to Red Bull and Ferrari.
“Every weekend we hope to improve and I really don’t know what we can expect this weekend. We are constantly making changes to our car, especially in terms of aerodynamics. I hope that this weekend we will discover something else that will take us further again,” he concluded.
Hamilton has finished on the podium in each of the last three Grands Prix and has already significantly reduced the gap to his teammate in the drivers’ championship. Russell finished fourth at the last Austrian Grand Prix, the same result he recorded in Canada. However, he failed to finish the British Grand Prix due to a major collision at the start.
