Barcelona are out of the Europa League, losing 2:3 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt. But the match was interesting before it even started, as 30,000 fans of the German team arrived at the Camp Nou. And the Catalan management does not understand how this could happen.

When Barcelona were knocked out of the Champions League, the goal was clear: winning the Europa League. But that’s not going to happen, the Catalans fell to Frankfurt of Germany.

The opening match ended in a 1-1 draw, Eintracht led 3-0 after 90 minutes and although the home side managed to score two goals in a long setup, it was not enough to equalise.

More than the result, however, perhaps most fans were impressed by the away numbers of the Frankfurt supporters. In fact, 30,000 made it to the stadium.

“It didn’t help that the atmosphere resembled a cup final on neutral ground. It felt like the fans were split down the middle. It’s not an excuse, I was just disappointed.

Even our players were talking about it. We want to know how it happened. We’re asking for an explanation. This can’t happen when you’re playing at home. There was a scheduling error. The club will find out what happened,” Barcelona coach Xavi said after the sending off.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta also gave his comments to the club’s television. “Xavi is right, it’s a big mistake. Honestly, I feel embarrassed and ashamed because of what happened today. The opponent had a lot of fans, while we didn’t.

I’m very sorry for what happened. You can avoid certain situations. From now on, we have to be much stricter. We can’t let something like this happen again. We are processing the information we have and will give an explanation as to how it happened,” he said.

Barcelona fans are thus unlikely to see the trophy again this season as they only play in the league, in which they are 12 points behind leaders Real.
