Slavia experienced euphoria on Thursday when Ivan Schranz scored the promotion goal in stoppage time. The Sešiovans could look forward to Friday’s draw. It was relatively lenient in terms of difficulty, as Slavia will face Cluj from Romania, Sivasspor from Turkey and Ballkani from Kosovo.
“I wanted the Irish, who missed out again, and there were other favourites. We are sorry that there is not a team that is completely interesting for the fans, someone with a big name. But they came to support us in the preliminary rounds, so I believe they will drive us to make the group, we advanced and then went to the next draw,” coach Jindřich Trpišovský told the club website.
The Slavs know Cluj very well, having knocked them out of the play-offs three years ago after 1:0 and 1:0 results. “I think the whole Slavia has great memories of this stadium, we started our journey to the Champions League there. We’re all looking forward to it, both teams have undergone a big transformation, so I think the match will be completely different than it was three years ago,” added Lukáš Masopust.
“They have the same coach and a lot of the same players, we know the environment there, we know what we’re getting into. They are still maintaining their performance, they won the title again by a big margin.Thememories of the last match are pleasant, the coach and the environment were nice, but as I said, we prefer teams we haven’t played before,” explained the coach of Slavia.
The public expects Slavia to be the main contributor to the coefficient. The reason is simple, the other two teams received basically a group of death.
This is because Slovácko will challenge Cologne, Nice and Partizan Belgrade, who knocked out Sparta in the spring. Much has been written about the Pilsen group, the spring continuation of one of the units could be considered a miracle.
