Just like the first match, Viktoria Plzeň managed to win the second match against Dynamo Brest by 2:1. Thus, they deservedly reached the next stage of the European Conference League.
Coach Michal Bílek is happy with the win. He was aware of the quality of the opponent, while the conditions were also not the most optimal. The wind was blowing strongly. “It’s a pity for the mistake at the end of the game, when we offered the opponent a goal. Otherwise we can be satisfied,” he is clear.
It wasn’t an easy game either, according to defender Lukáš Hejda. However, thanks to the tactics, when Plzeň played the way they needed to, the West Bohemians did not let their opponents do anything.
Bílek set his charges a tactic of fast breaks and it more or less succeeded in the first goal, scored by Joel Kayamba.
“We knew we could open up those spaces. I got a great ball and the first touch worked well too. I saw that I had no choice because the goalkeeper went down, so I outmuscled him. I’m glad we added another goal and kept working, we deservedly got promoted,” the Congolese midfielder was heard saying.
The Westerners won their third competitive match with a 2-1 result. But it is the victory that counts. Hejda thinks it will help the team especially mentally. “But now we have to prepare for the next match. I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully a lot of people will come and there will be good football,” Hejda added.
In the third preliminary round of the European Conference League, Viktoria will face The New Saints, who swept Zalgiris Kaunas uncompromisingly 10-1. Bílek has no reason to underestimate the upcoming opponent, on the contrary.
“We will face a tough opponent. Their results inspire respect. They have won away by a big margin, they are definitely a quality team,” Bílek thinks. “But this is just the beginning, our goal is the group. If we play with the same honesty, we will make it,” believes Kayamba.
