On Thursday evening, Slavia will play Union Berlin in a direct battle for promotion to the spring phase of the Conference Europa League. What does coach Jindřich Trpišovský expect from the match and what is the situation with the injured players?

Jindřich Trpišovský is looking forward to the match with Union. It will be played at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin, which makes him happy. Moreover, he considers Union to be an excellent team.

A draw would be enough for Slavia to qualify, but the coach is not thinking about that at all. “We are not talking about playing for a draw at all. We are preparing for Union comprehensively as a team, as if we were playing our first match here and needed to win,” Trpišovský said at the press conference.

The fact that Union will not be playing at their own stadium, but at the stadium of city rival Hertha, will play into the hands of the Seychellois. Only 5,000 spectators are allowed to attend the match. However, the former Liberec coach says he would prefer to play in front of full stands, even though it may be an advantage for his team.

Now I find it more compact, more cohesive. He showed his strength against Leipzig, beating them clearly and deservedly. Union showed strength in counter-attacks, standard tactics, personal duels and in the compactness of the team.”

The big star of the Berlin team is Max Kruse, on whom Trpišovský also commented. He described him as a fantastic and atypical player who would be good for Slavia on penalties.

However, Slavia could miss several stars. One certainty is the absence of Jan Kuchta, who is serving a yellow card penalty. Petr Ševčík did not travel to Berlin either.

As for the health of Lukáš Masopust or Ondřej Lingr, both players should be ready. Alexander Bach’s start will be determined after the full training session.

Trpišovský then admitted that the absence of Kuchta in particular is a big blow for his team. “We have some solutions, but Michael Krmencik’s health problems complicate things. There is also the possibility of rotating players, maybe we will start with a player who is not a classic striker and will go deep,” the coach hinted at possible tactics.

But everything will depend on the course of the match, in which Union will be a big favourite. Can Slavia succeed?
