Luis Enrique has officially become the new coach of Paris Saint-Germain, the club confirmed on the club website in the last few dozen hours. According to his words, PSG is entering a new era, Enrique also spoke about the summer transfer window and his philosophy.
Luis Enrique replaces incumbent coach Christophe Galtier at the helm of Paris Saint-Germain, who quit after just one year at the French big club.
The reigning Ligue 1 champions officially confirmed the news on the club’s website on Wednesday. Enrique will thus attempt something with PSG’s players that Galtier and none of his predecessors could do – reach the top in the Champions League.
It should be noted, Galtier himself agreed with the club’s management to leave, and he is the only coach since 2011 who lasted only one year on the PSG bench.
Enrique has previously managed AS Roma, Celta Vigo, Barcelona, and most recently the Spanish national team. But he retired from the national team bench after more than four years when his team fell short to Morocco in the World Cup eighth-finals in Qatar.
Qatari investors, however, have high hopes for Enrique’s arrival. And no wonder, the fifty-three-year-old coach has the qualities to finally reach the very top with PSG, even in the Champions League.
“We want to play football that pleases the fans, but above all we want to get results. Paris Saint-Germain must aim high,” Enrique said at the official presentation.
Philosophy, summer transfer window
“We have started working on the composition of the team. We have discussed a lot in the last few weeks and agreed on the idea we have for the transfer window. We are entering a new era, we want to play an attacking style, we want the fans to love watching their team,” Enrique spoke about the summer transfer window.
“My philosophy is to move forward all the time. You have to adapt to the players at your disposal and get the best out of them. We have to be ambitious and want to do our best, especially when you see this wonderful training centre,” added the new PSG coach.
