We are a better team than Real Madrid, documentary reveals Xavi’s words to Barcelona players
Real Madrid and Barcelona are two irreconcilable rivals and the biggest clubs in Spain. Who is the better of the two has been debated for years, last year it was Real Madrid in terms of performance and results. However, Barcelona coach Xavi doesn’t think so.
Real Madrid and Barcelona are two irreconcilable rivals and the biggest clubs in Spain. Who is the better of the two has been debated for years, last year it was Real Madrid in terms of performance and results. However, Barcelona coach Xavi doesn’t think so.
Last season was one of the worst and blackest in Barcelona’s history. The Blaugranas dropped out in the Champions League group stage and only reached the quarter-finals of the Europa League.
In the domestic La Liga, at one point they were as high as 9th place, 16 points behind Real Madrid. They eventually climbed to second place, but were 13 points behind their leading rival after the last round.
But just this season, Amazon Prime has been filming a behind-the-scenes documentary of the club. It was titled “New Era” thanks to Xavi’s winter arrival, but there wasn’t much to celebrate throughout the season.
One of the few bright moments was a high profile 4-0 win over Real Madrid at his Santiago Bernabéu. Barcelona have now posted a trailer from a documentary on their social media just heading into that match.
“We are a better team than Real Madrid,” Xavi was confident in his pre-match speech. Logically, this sparked heated discussions on the networks, as Los Blancos had a comfortable 13-point lead at the time.
This year, Barcelona are slightly better off. They lead the league by two points, but have a tough job ahead of them after the break. First they will face Espanyol in the city derby, then Atlético Madrid and then Getafe, and in all three games they will have to do without their top scorer Robert Lewandowski.
