Wayne Gretzky has the longest point streak in the NHL. Only two hockey players have come close to the top 10 this century

As you can guess, the owner of this record is none other than Wayne Gretzky. The vast majority of the longest point streaks were created in the wild 80’s, when almost twice as many goals were scored as today. The top 10 also includes a feat from the “seventies” when Guy Lafleur dominated the NHL.

1. place – 51 games

Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers (1983-84) – 153 points (61 goals + 42 assists)

It’s hard to imagine that in this day and age, Gretzky would score over half a season in a row with an extra 3 points per game! His dominance couldn’t have ended any other way than winning his first Stanley Cup.

2. place – 46 games

Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins (1989-90) – 103 points (39+43)

Another incredible streak by Wayne’s biggest rival, which was unfortunately ended by a back injury to Mario’s Achilles heel.

3. place – 39 games

Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers (1985-86) – 108 points (33+75)

Gretzky set 2 more records this season – 215 points and 163 assists, which will probably never be broken again. After all, The Great One, as his nickname goes, has a patent on records.

4. place – 30 games

Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers (1982-83) – 76 points (24+52)

Gretzky was in his prime. His 196 points won him the Art Ross Trophy for the third consecutive year, but he had to wait another year for his first Stanley Cup. In the meantime, the New York Islanders reigned supreme.

5. place – 30 games

Mats Sundin, Quebec Nordiques (1992-93) – 46 points (21+25)

He broke the 100-point mark for the first and last time this season. However, Sundin was never one of the players who regularly occupied the top 10 in scoring. However, he is the first representative of the 1990s to enter the top 10, and the only European to ever do so.

6. place – 28 games

Steve Yzerman, Detroit Red Wings (1988-89) – 65 points (29+36)

The Detroit captain exploded for 155 points and 65 goals this season. He never reached those numbers again after that.

7. place – 28 games

Wayne Gretzky, Edmonton Oilers (1984-85) – 63 points (20+43)

Gretzky has actually been in the top 10 four times! Winning his second Stanley Cup and with 208 points, the second best performance of all time.

8. place – 28 games

Guy Lafleur, Montreal Canadiens (1976-77) – 61 points (19+42)

The blond demon’s lifetime of form not only brought an impressive streak, but also personal bests in assists (80) and points (136) and the winning of valuable trophies, including those of Art Ross and Hart. Lafleur crowned a fabulous year with another Stanley Cup championship ring.

9. place – 28 games

Mario Lemieux, Pittsburgh Penguins (1985-86) – 59 points (21+38)

In his second season, he was already starting to be an opponent for Gretzky, as he had already scored 141 points.

10. place – 28 games

Paul Coffey, Edmonton Oilers (1985-86) – 55 points (16+39)

The only defenseman in history to score that many points in a row, plus he had almost 2 points per game. He fell one point short of Bobby Orr’s record of 139 points in a single regular season. Coffey was at least happy to see that he set a new high in goals scored among defensemen (48).

And what about this millennium?

The 2 closest to the aforementioned Top 10 so far are active hockey players. Patrick Kane had a streak of 26 games in 2015-16 and Sidney Crosby managed to score in 25 straight games in 2010-11.
