Watford enter the new Championship season on Monday. They welcome Sheffield United to their home ground. What to expect from the clash of two teams that have played in the Premier League in the recent past and what to bet on?
Watford did not have a bad first part of last season, due to a bad season before and after Christmas they fell into the relegation zone, from which they never got out. It lost points several times right at the very end.
Sheffield were relegated from the Premier League two seasons back, started last year with absolutely insane results, yet eventually made the play-offs. In the semi-final, they were unlucky to lose to Nottingham Forest in a penalty shootout.
The home side have a threat in attack in the form of Nigerian Emmanuel Dennis, who netted ten goals and assisted five times in the league last season. Winger Ismaila Sarr and left back Hassane Kamara are also big names.
Thirty-six year old club icon Billy Sharp scored fifteen goals for the visitors, of course he is the team captain. Talented offensive midfielder Iliman Ndiaye scored seven times and assisted three times.
Watford won once, lost twice in friendlies, and played goalless against top-flight Southampton.
Sheffield did not do well in the preparation, losing three out of five games, while playing against three teams from the third or worse English league.
Considering the quality of Watford’s squad and Sheffield’s poor performances in preparation, I think the home side will win.
