Slavia went into the final match with Sivaspor with the idea that they had to get more points than Cluj, who hosted Ballkani at home. The chances of progression were not great and in the end their prediction was confirmed.
Cluj defeated the Kosovo side, while Slavia only drew with Sivaspor. In their group, in which they expected to advance from the first place, they managed to beat only Ballkani.
“Overall, we did not manage the group. Today it was not even in our power and we are still very sorry that we could not take the victory. The crowd was amazing, the fans were great and we are sorry for them especially, ” said David Jurásek in a post-match interview.
He was present at a very controversial moment in the first half, when a penalty was given after his hand, which was converted by Max Gradel. However, replays showed that it was more of a shoulder.
“I think it was definitely not an arm. It hit me in the shoulder, if not in the chest. The referee judged it like that and unfortunately it was not good for us, but we had enough time to turn it around and unfortunately we didn’t finish it,” explained the disputed moment.
Unfortunately, the video was not available and Slavie lost the match. The equaliser came relatively late, but even if they had managed to score the winning goal, it would not have been enough to advance.
So the 130th birthday anniversary was not celebrated with a sweet spot. But the fans definitely deserve praise for their performance throughout the match.
