Jiri Prochazka after his defeat in the UFC is fulfilling his media duties and describing his future. Now he admitted that he is thinking about changing his weight class as he needs to fight more often. How does he currently see it?
At UFC 295, we saw Jiri Prochazka’s title fight with Alex Pereira. The Czech fighter was a slight favorite, but the first round showed an evenly matched battle. It is a question who won it, the experts were also not quite sure.
However, Procházka was more successful in the second one and managed to hit him well several times. But when he tried to drive the Brazilian to the canvas, he took two punches to the face and went down after the second one. He was still trying to save the situation, but cashed in more punches and when Pereira got on top of him, the referee stopped the fight.
At the moment, the controversial ending is no longer being addressed and we can finally talk about what will follow. There has been speculation of a weight class change and Prochazka has now outlined his opinion on the situation.
Prochazka on the weight class change
“I would like to fight earlier than in May. So we’ll see what opportunities will arise there. We can come up with something unconventional. I don’t mean that I would fight a boxer, but I meant maybe a jump up or down in weight.
Just looking for some of those options. We’ve been pushing a little bit for a rematch with Pereira, but they want to give him a fight with Jamahal Hill, and that won’t be until the summer. We’ll see. The way I’m thinking right now, I want to fight as soon as possible and I want to win.
Put on a performance, work on my mistakes and work my way to a title shot. I’m more excited about making a good fight than the title right now,” he said in a wide-ranging interview with Uppercut.
So let’s be surprised who that opponent will end up being and at what weight. If he wants to fight before May, the announcement could come as early as the start of next year.
