Wales defeated Estonia and caught up with the Czech Republic. Who has a better chance of advancing?
The Welsh’s slim 1-0 win in Tallinn against Estonia means they are keeping pace with the Czechs on points. Both teams will be fighting for the second promotion spot to the World Cup.
The Welsh’s slim 1-0 win in Tallinn against Estonia means they are keeping pace with the Czechs on points. Both teams will be fighting for the second qualification position for the World Cup.
In their last match, Wales drew with the Czech Republic despite being the better team in the match. They wanted to fix their taste on the pitch in Estonia, where they went for the mandatory three points. The players were very keen to win.
Wales scored a quick goal in the 12th minute, Kieffer Moore pushed his way through. The game was played both ways. The Estonians and the Welsh had further chances, but no further goals came. So the visitors take the slim win and get the three points.
First place in the World Cup qualification Group E table belongs to Belgium, who have 16 points after six matches. Second place belongs to the Czech Republic, who have 11 points after seven matches. Third is Wales, who also have 11 points but have played only six matches.
Wales could theoretically overtake Belgium to finish in first place. However, the Belgians next qualifying match is against Estonia, where they should not falter. Therefore, Belgium will most likely advance from first place.
However, second place is in play, which means qualification for the World Cup barrier. The Czechs will play their last qualifying match against the Estonians. The game should mean three points, but Wales also struggled against this team, so it will not be a sure win.
Wales have a game against Belarus where they will be favourites, just like against Estonia. If it wants to think about promotion, it needs to win the second game it plays against Belgium in addition to Belarus.
They will be the underdog there. So the chances of both teams advancing are great, it will depend more on the mistakes of the other team whether the Czech Republic or Wales advance.
Qualifying matches:
13.11. Wales – Belarus
16.11. Czech Republic – Estonia
16.11. Wales – Belgium
