The former home of Czech striker Matej Vydra is experiencing probably the biggest crisis of its existence. The next point deduction foreshadows relegation to the third league.

The traditional club of the island football scene is in ruins. Two-time English champion Derby County will have to accept relegation to the third highest competition, League One. Not that he has been performing so tragically on the pitch, but his knees have been brought down by a breach of Championship financial rules.

Back in September, the club was punished with a deduction of twelve points after being forced into insolvency. On Tuesday, November 16, another decision was made. Derby are facing a deduction of a further nine points. In the context of the points gained so far, Derby now occupy the last position with minus three points.

Championship Director Trevor Birch commented, “The aim of the competition management is to ensure that all clubs comply with the financial rules and principles without exception.”

“The points deduction is not a win for any club, but we are concerned that Derby County should not disappear from the football map for good. The agreement with the competition’s management allows us to take steps to restructure the whole club and ensure that there is hope for Derby County’s re-emergence.”

Coach Wayne Rooney is facing a futile fight for survival in the second division and is likely to be on the bench of another team next season. If he stays at Derby, he will become an idol for the fans.

Let’s recall that Matěj Vydra worked at the address in 2016-2018 and scored 26 goals and assisted 5 more in a Derby jersey.
