Vrba after the loss to Rapid: We have a chance in the rematch!
Sparta failed to beat Rapid Vienna and lost 1:2. Such a result would have been considered good in the past, but now the away goals rule does not apply, so Sparta will have their work cut out for them in the rematch.
Sparta failed in their match against Rapid Vienna and lost 1:2. Such a result would have been considered good in the past, but now the away goals rule does not apply, so Sparta will have their work cut out for them in the rematch. What did their coach Pavel Vrba say after the game?
Sparta took the lead as early as the third minute when Ladislav Krejci Jr. dealt with a header after a precise centre from Bořek Dočkal.
However, that was Sparta’s only goal, despite having several great chances. In the end, Rapid scored twice and it will be enough for them not to lose at Letná.
“The result is of course not optimal for us. The away goal doesn’t count as much as it used to. 1:2 is a loss, but we definitely have a chance in the return leg. I believe that we will fight back and turn the unfavourable situation around in a week’s time,” said Pavel Vrba after the match.
The Austrian team’s stoppers guarded Adam Hložek well, who escaped them at the end, but from a great chance he hit only one of the returning players.
“He was in a situation in which he is making a big impact in the Czech Republic and scoring goals from it. Unfortunately, he didn’t manage to do that. I believe that he will have even more support in Prague and will be able to score goals,” the Czech coach added.
Sparta must now concentrate on the league, as they host Olomouc Sigma at home on Saturday. They then play a rematch with Rapid on Wednesday.
