Czech fighter and proud Silesian Vojtech Garba recently announced his return from wrestling retirement. He decided to retire after his last loss to Brazilian Sout. However, his love for the sport was so strong that a tournament on home soil convinced him to return.
When he made his debut in the Real Fight Arena organization, it was definitely no cakewalk. His opponent was Attila Vegh’s conqueror and former KSW champion Goran Reljic, who was expected to win in clear and dominant fashion.
However, the course of the bout did not indicate the paper expectations at all, and although Reljic spent a lot of time in top position, he didn’t make much of it. Garba, on the other hand, landed one hard elbow after another on the Croatian and gave Reljic a big gash at the end of the first round.
The situation repeated itself in the 3rd round, where Vojtech again found himself under Reljic. The now completely bloodied former world champion could do nothing of substance and both scoring judges saw the fight scored 30-27 for the Silesian Knight.
After a perfect performance with Reljic, expectations were very high. His next opponent was Brazilian Bruce Souto, who came straight from the American PFL. Although Garba was able to hit the Brazilian well on several occasions, he was able to shorten the distance to the mesh each time and kept Garba at bay.
It was the same in all three rounds and Souto won on points. A dejected Garba then dropped his gloves in the middle of the cage. “I didn’t make the decision to quit after the fight, but I had it in my head beforehand. It’s nothing sudden.
I would only return to wrestling if I could make a living from our sport without making a fool of myself,” he said.
Half a year after the fight, Garba returned to wrestling and is not opposed to a possible rematch. I’m very competitive and the red boxes on Sherdog are killing me. It just wasn’t my day with Sout because I had trained for everything.”
The fight with Sout took place in October 2022 at RFA 5. A lot has changed since then, but most importantly Garba has reconsidered ending his career. ” I love this sport and I miss it a lot,” the Jayman MMA Fighting Systems representative admitted.
His next fight will be at the RFA 10 tournament in Havířov in front of his home crowd. The tournament will take place on May 13 and you can watch it via PPV platform.
