Viktoria Plzeň defeated Dynamo Brest again 2:1 on a neutral ground in Yerevan, Belarus, and celebrated their qualification to the third round of the Conference Europa League.
Viktoria Plzeň defeated Dynamo Brest again 2-1 on a neutral ground in Yerevan, Belarus, and celebrated their progress to the third round of the Europa League.
Plzeň players defended their one-goal lead from the first leg against Brest in the second leg of the Conference Europa League second round. However, due to air traffic problems in Belarus, the match was played on neutral ground in the Armenian capital Yerevan.
Viktoria Plzen took the lead early in the match. Kacer saw Kayamba running and sent him into an independent break with a beautiful pass. None of the defending players could keep up with him, so he successfully outmuscled goalkeeper Stepanov and was able to celebrate his first goal in a Viktoria jersey in more than 5 months.
A complication arose for the West Czechs in the 28th minute when they had to substitute Beauguel for health reasons and Chorý came on in his place. Pilsen must hope that it is nothing serious, because they are already missing 9 players due to health reasons.
Dynamo could have equalised in the 33rd minute. However, a centred ball from Sedek from a direct free kick was not headed by any of the players and ended up on the bar.
Mosquera then centred into the box to the onrushing Chorý, but in a promising position in the small area he shot wide.
Both teams were very attacking in the first half. At the end of the half Shestyuk centred dangerously and Sedek’s attempt from a direct free kick flew past the bar.
From the edge of the second half, Shulc’s centre found Chorý’s head and goalkeeper Stepanov still managed to keep out the header from the three posts.
Chorý didn’t score in the 62nd minute when he cut loose from a defender but his shot went straight into Stepanov’s gloves.
In the 70th minute, Řezník centred dangerously and Stepanov managed to knock the ball away, but only to the substitute Falta, whose shot increased the score.
After a huge hesitation by Plzeň, Dynamo managed to correct the score to 2:1 in the 90th minute. However, nothing more happened and Viktoria’s players enjoyed the promotion.
The second half was not so attacking from either side. Brest were struggling and Viktoria Plzeň wanted to finish the game calmly, so they didn’t attack at any cost and didn’t press as much.
The Westerners thus knocked out Dynamo Brest and advance to the third round of the Conference Europa League, where they will most likely challenge Welsh side TNS.
