FC Viktoria Plzeň have successfully completed all the preliminary rounds of the Champions League and will play in the group stage, where the West Czechs will face some very formidable opponents. Moreover, Viktoria already know their schedule and will kick off Group C with a match against Barcelona.
Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Inter Milan – these are Viktoria Plzeň’s opponents in the Champions League group stage.
The group stage of the most famous and prestigious football competition starts on Tuesday 6 September with matches in Groups E, F, G and H, while Viktoria’s programme starts on Wednesday 7 September with a duel in Barcelona.
As you can see in the attached twitter post below, Plzeň’s next match will be on 13 September at home against Inter, while Michal Bílek’s charges will play the German champions Bayern on 4 October.
How Viktoria Plzen will fare in the Champions League group stage is the big question at the moment. What is certain, however, is that it will face very tough battles and every point will count, as Jan Kopic said in a recent interview for the club’s website.
“A group of death with everything, I wished that they would pull us out first in that pool, but it was nerve-wracking until the end. In the booth we experienced it a lot. I personally wanted Paris more, but it would have been beautiful wherever we went. This is such a cherry on the cake and every point will be good.”
In the prelims of the Champions League, the Westerners first knocked out Finland’s HJK Helsinki (2::1, 5::0), then they beat Tiraspol (2::1, 2::1) and lastly, Plzeň had a very tough battle with Karabakh.
Viktoria first drew 0:0 in Azerbaijan, while Karabakh had much more to play for, but at home Plzeň shifted up a gear and won 2:1.
