Viking was locked in a ten-man balloon and it was difficult for us to get in any way, Fortelny said

He was one of the best players on the field. Jan Fortelný, a twenty-three-year-old midfielder, finally found his feet in Sparta and started against Viking. But he couldn’t score either and Sparta won’t take any goal lead into the rematch.

Sparta went into the game as favourites, wanting to take at least a one-goal lead to Norway, but Viking’s defenders were against them and the defensive wall was hard to overcome.

“It was a tough game. We were all looking forward to it. Unfortunately, we couldn’t break through the closed Viking defence to score. I believe that we will be able to do it in the next game and we will get promotion from Norway,” said Jan Fortelný in an interview for the club website after the game.

He has had a successful guest stint in Teplice and now he has finally found his feet and will stay in Sparta. He even started in the starting line-up against Viking.

“It was amazing for me. Now I will always remember this game. I hope that the cup double with Viking will be a promotion match and I will have a better feeling overall,” he added.

His performance was outstanding and if he continues to play like this, the coaching staff will have positive concerns about the lineup. However, even a good performance by Fortelny couldn’t help Sparta score a goal.

“Maybe we could have filled the goal area with more centres. But it was difficult. The Viking were locked with ten men under the ball and it was difficult for us to get there anyway,” the 23-year-old midfielder finished.

The 0:0 scoreline plays into the hands of the Norwegian opponents, who are still not the favourites to qualify. Sparta played good football and Viking won’t be able to be involved in the whole home game.

The rematch should offer more loopholes that will suit the players of the Prague team. However, fans are rightly concerned about how the match will turn out.
