VIDEO: Worst hit of the year? The former world number one made a mistake you’ll never see!
Even a master carpenter makes mistakes sometimes. Andy Murray demonstrated this adage in practice in his opening match at the Masters 1000 in Madrid. The Olympic champion and holder of three Grand Slam titles bid farewell to the Spanish capital immediately after the first round.

The prestigious clay court event has had a second day of play that has produced several surprises. But one stood out above the rest.
British tennis player Andy Murray, although still not approaching the performance of previous years in recent months, was still the paper favourite in his first round duel.
Italian qualifier Andrea Vavassori, the 164th player in the world rankings, stood in his way of advancing. The match did not start happily for Murray, who lost both opening games on his serve and was quickly down 0: 4.
After a sleepy start, the two-time Olympic champion from Rio and London was slowly but surely getting into the match. He lost the first set 2::6, but the second set brought considerable drama.
Vavassori again managed to take away the former world number one’s serve, but Murray levelled the score and the second set had to be decided by a tiebreak. In the shortened game, the Italian surprised again, leading very quickly 5: 1 and the winner seemed to be decided.
It wouldn’t be Murray who didn’t fight back and managed to turn away three match points in a row, thus equalizing at 6::6. But on this hugely important point, it was the experienced Briton who failed completely.
Murray already had his opponent on the scoop and only needed to finish the ball at the net. However, the native of Scotland sent the ball into the net from a distance of about half a meter. Everyone watching, including Murray, didn’t understand what had just happened.
Moments later, Vavassori was able to enjoy the most valuable victory of his career. For most fans, however, the most memorable aspect of this match will be his opponent’s rather incomprehensible blunder.
