A very strange situation took place on Tuesday in the fourth English league. With ten minutes left to play, neither team showed any desire to play.
A very strange situation took place on Tuesday in the fourth English league. With ten minutes left to play, neither team showed any desire to play.
There is no doubt that the English lower leagues have their charms. It’s wonderful to see several thousand fans turn up and fill the stadium, even in the fifth tier.
There is a great atmosphere during the game, which we don’t get to see in the Czech top flight, for example.
However, even in England, sometimes strange and bizarre things happen. One such thing happened on Tuesday, when Gillingham and Leyton Orient played in the Fourth Division.
The former team is at the bottom of the table and until this game was fighting for the certainty of staying in the competition. In Leyton’s case, it was the opposite scenario.
The club is already assured of promotion to the third league and with two rounds to go before the end of the current season, they don’t have to worry about any complications and they will just finish the season.
Home side Gillingham needed to win the game to ensure certainty of staying in the league. The visiting footballers seemingly made the situation easier for them with a red card, which they received in the 14th minute of the game. Two minutes later, the home fans were able to celebrate the first goal of the match.
Leyton Orient received another goal with a quarter of an hour left in the game, and it came from a penalty kick. What happened ten minutes before the end of the game will not please any football fan.
From the footage it is quite obvious that neither team wants to play at all and they have played the rest of the game in a similar style.
