He’s definitely not gonna put that behind him. Gerard Piqué, in a key match in the fight to reach the Champions League eight-finals, gave Barcelona a major setback when he put Inter Milan into the match with his incomprehensible error.

He was only the fourth or fifth stopper before the season started. Xavi almost didn’t count on Pique anymore, not looking at their relationship as former players. In the hierarchy before him were Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen and Eric García. But the first three were injured and Piqué had to step in.

However, everything went according to plan in the match against Inter. Barcelona pressed in the first half, the Italian side didn’t have much apart from Jack’s chance from a standard. When Ousmane Dembélé opened the scoring before going into the box, Barcelona had everything in their hands.

But the lead didn’t last long in the second half. In the 50th minute, stopper Bastoni had the ball just outside the attacking half and sent it into the box where Barella was waiting behind the Barcelona defence. However, he was not offside as Piqué was forgotten in the whitewash.

Even worse, however, was what followed. Piqué saw the ball flying behind him, only he thought there was no one behind him. So he stretched out his arms to signal that he was in control of the situation, whether he let the ball fly into the net or into ter Stegen’s hands.

Little did he know, however, that Barella was charging in behind him and he worked the centre to equalise at 1-1.

Piqué immediately became the butt of jokes on the internet. However, Barcelona fans are fed up with his performance and would prefer not to see him on the pitch again. The anger was exacerbated by second-choice stopper Eric García, who made a mistake on Inter’s second goal.
