VIDEO: What does the game look like from a player’s perspective? Cologne players got body cameras against AC Milan
Football is always moving forward and every now and then someone comes up with new innovations to push the world’s most watched sport even further and attract more fans. And that’s what Cologne is trying to do by putting cameras on the players’ bodies.

A friendly match between Cologne and AC Milan would otherwise be of no interest to neutral fans. There was nothing special about the result either, with the Italian champion beating the seventh Bundesliga team 2-1 after two goals from Olivier Giroud.
But what was special about the whole match was that you could experience it as if you were playing it yourself. Several Cologne players had cameras and microphones strapped to their bodies, so you can enjoy the match directly from the player’s perspective.
In the video, for example, you can see how a defender fails to catch Giroud as he rounds the goalkeeper and finishes into an empty one, or the sight of a central midfielder watching helplessly as the French striker’s shot crashes into the crossbar.
A similar video would be very interesting to watch from the player’s perspective even during crisp matches, especially with a microphone so that fans can see how the communication between players and the referee or other opposing players is going.
