West Ham failed to win Sunday’s London derby at Tottenham and remain in the relegation zone after a 0:2 defeat. Spurs, on the other hand, secured fourth place thanks to goals from Emerson Royal and Heung Min Son.
The visitors had a chance in the first minute when Jarrod Bowen headed over from a cross after a pass from Tomas Soucek. The Czech midfielder entered the game well, winning the ball twice in the opening seven minutes in the attacking half.
On the other side, Oliver Skipp shot, but Soucek knocked his attempt away for a corner. That was all for a long time, otherwise it was mostly a fight on the pitch. In the 36th minute, Pierre Emile Hojbjerg shot from distance, but Lukasz Fabianski made a good save.
Tottenham were more active in the first half, but were brought down by inaccuracies in the final stages. The game was scoreless going into the final whistle. Just after the change of sides, a sympathetic Tottenham break was finished by Richarlison, but only weakly and in the middle of the goal.
In the 53rd minute, Dejan Kulusevski’s shot flew over Harry Kane and then missed the back post. Three minutes later, the celebrations were underway. Ben Davies cleverly crossed to Emerson Royal who coolly slotted past Fabianski.
On the other end, Bowen could have equalised immediately, but Fraser Forester dealt with the cross. Spurs added an insurance goal in the 72nd minute. Kane cleverly found Heung Min Son from first touch to give Fabianski no chance.
After that, the game was all to play for and Tottenham won 2-0 at home to jump up to fourth place, a point ahead of Newcastle. West Ham, on the other hand, remain third from bottom, one point behind the relegation zone.
