Arsenal hold a one-goal lead at half-time against Porto in the Champions League semi-final, but need one more goal to progress. The opening goal of the game was scored by Leandro Trossard after a great pass from Martin Odegaard.
Arsenal went into the eight-finals as favourites, but failed to get a shot on target in their first game together for more than two years. Instead, the Portuguese champions struck in the fourth minute of stoppage time to take a one-goal lead into London.
And he held on to it very expertly in London. Arsenal held the ball, but missed their first chance and then Porto began to threaten. David Raya made an important save in the 23rd minute and the Gunners were virtually unthreatening from then on.
But everything changed in the 41st minute when Arsenal used a great combination to stun the blue and white defence and Leandro Trossard finished to the back post. The 1:0 scoreline ended the first half, meaning extra time for now.
Arsenal with a settled line-up
Arsenal went into the game with a line-up that has proven itself in recent weeks. At the start of the season, few expected the Gunners to start the Champions League eight-final rematch with Jakub Kiwior at left-back or Jorginho in the middle of midfield.
On the league stage, the Gunners are breaking records. For the first time in club history they have won the first eight league rounds of a calendar year, while being only the fourth side in Premier League history to do so. The only blemish was a loss at Porto.
The visitors also arrived at the Emise Stadium in good current form, having gifted Benfica Lisbon a top five finish a week ago, while the latter led the league. Moreover, the Blues have had more cup experience in recent years, knocking out Juventus and Cristiano Ronaldo in the eighth round.
