Barcelona successfully completed their round of 17 match on Wednesday at Betis Sevilla and won 2-1. However, in the first half, the fans were not treated to a goal, although Luiz Henrique had a great chance to score in the tenth minute.
And even Barcelona did not take advantage of their very solid opportunity by the end of the first act. At the start of the second half, Pedri had another great chance, but was again saved by goalkeeper Rui Silva.
And so Barcelona’s shooting woes were broken by Raphinha in the 65th minute, with Robert Lewandowski adding another goal fifteen minutes later. Betis then managed to reduce the gap to a single goal when Jules Koundé scored an own goal in injury time.
The Catalan club leads the Spanish top flight with 50 points after nineteen games, eight points ahead of Real Madrid. The latter, however, has one game in hand. Betis is currently in sixth place with 31 points.
Apart from three goals, several great chances and a great atmosphere at the Estadio Benito Villamarín, this match offered something else.
Araújo and the advertising banner
A very bizarre moment, when Barcelona stopper Ronald Araújo ended up under an advertising banner after a duel with Willian José and literally disappeared completely for a while.
A mistake in the matrix? No. But how is this even possible? Givemesport explains, specifically quoting Reddit user Ragnarok_CH, who explained the whole issue of how advertising banners actually work.
“This theory is more or less correct. However, they are virtual overlays placed on the TV broadcast, which then display targeted advertising depending on the region the match is being broadcast to. It‘s not a gimmick though, people in the stadium can still see the ads on the ice boards,” says Ragnarok_CH, quoted by Givemesport.
“If you pay attention to the ice boards around the goal, you can always tell if it is a virtual overlay or not. There will always be a glitch,” he continues.
So how does it work?
“The camera is mounted on a kind of virtual head that reads position and alignment data. The lens of this camera, along with the software, is calibrated with the body and sensor of the camera, so the virtual software can be adjusted for any deviations.”
He goes on to write that we are to imagine a virtual 3D box that just tells the camera where to place everything.
The data is transferred from the camera to the computer running the virtual software. After calibration, the virtual operator loads the graphics it has been given, which have been created to arbitrary specifications. It then uses various codes to mask what it does and does not want to appear on the virtual graphics.
