Formula 1 will return to action on 25 August after its mandatory summer break, kicking off the last ten races of the season. The upcoming Dutch Grand Prix will be the home race for Max Verstappen, who will be driving a special design of his helmet.
Two-time world champion and current championship leader Max Verstappen will ride the upcoming Dutch Grand Prix with a special helmet design.
Of course, this will be a home race for the Red Bull team leader, a race he has dominated each of the last two seasons.
Verstappen will arrive in front of his home crowd as the leader of the drivers’ championship, with a massive 125-point lead over second-placed Sergio Pérez. The 25-year-old Dutchman has won eight grand prix in a row. From Miami to the last Belgian VC.
In Zandvoort, he can also equal the record of Sebastian Vettel and Alberto Ascari in terms of consecutive victories. They have won nine times in a row.
Proof of Red Bull’s total domination is the breaking of McLaren’s long-standing record from 1988. The Austrian team won the Hungaroring in Hungary for the 12th time in a row.
Verstappen and Pérez have now scored 503 points between them. Second-placed Mercedes, with 247 points, trails Red Bull by an abysmal 256 points.
But back to Verstappen and his helmet. Last year he paid tribute to his father Jos, a former F1 driver, through a special design. And this year, Super Max has come up with another special colouring.
You can see Verstappen’s unusual helmet design in the video above. However, it should be noted that this year’s design is very similar to the classic one he’s been racing with this season.
Verstappen chose a helmet design this year to match the blue, white and red of the Dutch flag. So the only question left is – can Verstappen win in Zandvoort for the third time in a row?
