Muhammad Mokaev is one of the biggest talents in the world of MMA, at the age of 22 he entered the UFC 286 tournament undefeated with nine wins to his credit. But in London, his opponent put him in an extremely uncomfortable situation. Still, the Dagestan native prevailed.
The incredible story continues in style. Muhammad Mokaev may not yet be one of the UFC’s most famous fighters, but with what he’s showing, it’s only a matter of time.
The Dagestan native has had a rough road in life. His mother died when he was 12 years old. He and his father eventually moved to England, where the beginnings were not easy. They came to the Islands as refugees via France.
Mokaev and his father first passed through a refugee camp in Liverpool, followed by a move to Wigan, eventually landing in Manchester. The now 22-year-old fighter showed great wrestling skills back then. He went on to represent Great Britain at the European and World MMA Championships.
It is also worth noting that it was necessary to win a court battle as his father received deportation letters. After that, Mokaev’s life has stabilized and in 2020 his professional career, which he has been going through so far as a sovereign, started in full.
On Saturday, he was featured on the prelims card at UFC 286 in London and his opponent was the troublesome Brazilian Jafel Filho. While Mokaev was the better fighter in the bout, he still had to show tremendous will and perseverance in the third round.
In fact, Filho got a good hold of Mokaev’s leg and applied a kneebar, and the footage of the Dagestan native’s bent leg made more than one MMA fan uncomfortable. Filho didn’t seem to want to break his opponent’s leg completely and “let go” of the position.
And he may have regretted it later. A few seconds later Mokaev was able to choke the Brazilian out, and as soon as Filho tapped out, Mokaev stood up and it was clear from his movement that his leg was not right.
however, the 22-year-old talent notched his tenth win and is heading towards his dream of being one of the youngest champions in UFC history.
